Walkit.com - the urban walking route planner

Why not walk it?

No timetables to keep to, no journey delays, little overcrowding, healthy, green, free, direct, access to services (and sunlight!) en route. Walkit.com want to help you make an informed decision about whether walking is a suitable option for all, or part, of any journey.

Walkit.com is really easy to use.  Just go to the website www.walkit.com and you can get a route map between any two points, including your journey time, calorie burn, step count and carbon saving.  It’s quick, free, healthy and green.

You can choose different routes (direct, less busy and low pollution):

  1. ‘Direct’ routes - this (default) option provides you with the quickest walking route between the 2 points you entered, regardless of how busy the roads are.
  2. ‘Less busy’ – this option helps you avoid the busiest roads, and favours routes across parks or along quieter streets.  We can’t guarantee the route will be ‘nice’ however, sometimes you will just have to contend with a noisy/busy street to get from A to B! But if you think we’re missing a trick somewhere (i.e. a short-cut or an off-road path), please let us know.
  3. ‘Low pollution’ – this option calculates a ‘low pollution’ walking route.  We look at the average nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations along each road or path segment, and the path segment’s length and suggest less polluted routes for your journey.

So why not try something different and walk your next journey to work, the shops, to meetings or out and about to meet friends.
